Merit Health Woman’s Hospital Reaches Top 10% Patient Satisfaction
9/10/2021
Merit Health Woman’s Hospital has reached a pinnacle benchmark according to Press Ganey, the leading health care company known for developing and distributing patient satisfaction surveys in the United States.
The survey, known as HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems), is a national, standardized, publicly reported survey of patients’ perspectives of hospital care. Merit Health Woman’s Hospital scored in the top 10% among all Press Ganey clients for patient satisfaction for the second quarter of 2021.
“Reaching this goal means a lot to the physicians and staff at Merit Health Woman’s Hospital,” says Heather Sistrunk, chief executive officer. “But it means even more to our community. Our patients know we are a hospital that can be trusted to provide excellent care.”
Inpatients are eligible to receive a survey after their hospital stay has ended. Those survey results are tabulated to measure the ‘patient experience’, which includes several aspects of health care delivery that patients value highly when they seek and receive care, such as communication with physicians and nurses, information about discharge planning, care transition, and responsiveness of hospital staff.
“We review our HCAHPS scores and feedback regularly to ensure that our patients have the best and safest hospital experience possible. If we identify an opportunity for improvement, we will develop and implement ways to improve the patient experience immediately,” explains Sistrunk.
Merit Health Woman’s Hospital, known for its excellence in labor and delivery, is also home to other services including multi-specialty surgical services, breast diagnostics, and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The most recent milestone was the addition of the only breast intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) treatment in the state of Mississippi.
