Surgical oncologists treat cancer by removing diseased tissue and often nearby lymph nodes, the parts of your immune system that act as filters, where cancer may spread. The goals of the surgical oncologists are to remove the cancer and an area of healthy tissue surrounding it in order to prevent the cancer from recurring in that area.
